lame, lame blogger

Hi Everyone,

I've been really bad about updating my blog lately so for anyone that still checks it regularly - my apologies. I am working on new creative projects including a big creator owned project with my buddy JC Vaughn of 24 & Overstreet's Price Guide fame. We hope to have a significant amount complete by the end of April and it'll be debuting online around that time. Because it's an online project we want to avoid leaking too much prior to the launch. But I am working. Really, I am.
In other news, I'll be at the New York Comicon this coming weekend (Feb 23rd-25th) at the Top Cow booth so stop on by and say "hi" if you're going to be at the show.

Take care!

off to Texas

Hey Gang,

I'll be at WizardWorld Texas this weekend for the day job. Should be a good time and I've never been to Texas (other than connecting through Dallas and Houston on the way to the West Coast) so I'm curious to see how Texas BBQ stacks up against Carolina. Swing by the booth if you're in the neighborhood.

Take care,

Filip

Block Broken

Hey - The past few weeks have been frustrating because I ran into an artistic block. The work wasn't coming out quickly and when it was down on paper it wasn't looking like I'd like. I draw at night and on the weekends after the day job is done which doesn't leave alot of time to warm up the drawing hand. Luckily last night I seem to have shook off the little bad drawing gnome on my left shoulder. I'm excited enough to show you some of the early drawings of the page I was working on last night. From my Black Diamond story. Enjoy! -Filip

Wicked West 2 in stores!

Hey Everyone,

Wicked West 2 from Image Comics is in stores this Wednesday, October 25th! Run, don't walk and pick up your copy by some truly gifted creators like Bob Tinnell, Todd Livingston, and Neal Vokes. Plus a collection of their buddies including a some guy name Filip Sablik.

Take care!

Filip

more Dead Inspector

Here's some more sneak peek action for the upcoming Dead Inspector project by JC Vaughn and yours truly. Enjoy the Baltimore show this weekend!

America Jr

My good buddy, Todd Livingston (co-writer of cool graphic novels like Black Forest and Wicked West) has a popular new web strip called America Jr. He was kind enough to ask yours truly to draw one of the weekend strips, which are all done by guest artists. Comic Book Resources just did a story on the strip and featured a number of the guest artist pieces at the bottom of the page. Check it and the strip out - http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=8294.

Profile Pic

Just adding a photo to my Blog profile. I thought this one was kind of appropriate for an art blog.

Dead Inspector 2

More Sneak Peeks!

Dead Inspector

Here's a sneak peek at an upcoming project!

Black Diamond "The Curse"

I'm really excited about this next project, a back up story in Ait/PlanetLar's "Black Diamond" series, written by my bud Larry Young and drawn by Jon Proctor. The story will be written, drawn, and inked all by yours truly. Here's a preview of the thumbnail layouts. Enjoy!

Army of Darkness #12 Cover

Here's a new cover image I recently did for Dynamite Entertainment . It will be featured in issue #12 of Army of Darkness. Part of the issue looks at Ash's origins and days in high school, so I thought the "Fast Times in Ridgemont High" was appropriate.

Wicked West 2 Tern Back - Page 4

The final page! It's short and (hopefully you'll agree) sweet. This was a really fun story and the slugs were a blast.

Best,

Filip

Wicked West "Tern Back!" Page 3

Sorry about the delay on this! But without further hyperbole - I give you page 3 or "Cotton's Horse becomes Slug Food".

Wicked West 2 Page 2

"Tern Back!" continues!
Now with giant, flesh eating slugs. That's right, slugs.
You know you want more now.

Wicked West 2 "Tern Back!" Page 1

Hey Everybody!
I'm pretty excited about this next project, a 4 page back story in Tinnell and Livington's Wicked West 2 book from Image. I'm working with a really cool horror writer, Andrew Sands. Here's a sneak preview of page 1.

page 6 revised and updated!

Hi All,

If you go back to the original post for page 6 you can see a side by side comparison of the 2 panels changes I made to it. I think they make the page look quite a bit stronger.

Best,

Filip

Cthulhu Page 2! The Dreamworld.

Hey Everyone,

This is the final page for the Cthulhu story and definitely the most challenging one Johanna threw at me. I got a bit obsessive detail, but I think it pays off in the final look. Be sure to check out the revision to page 8 below as well. It's minor, but I think clarified that the main character is actually being attacked by the Cthulhu tenticles.

Enjoy!

Cthulhu Page 7

Home stretch now. Enjoy!

Cthulhu Page 1

Page 1 is now up. Only two more pages to be completed!

Cthulhu Page 5

Hi All,

I think this page may be my favorite one to date. The facial expressions came out excellent and I think the suspense builds pretty well throughout the page.
